Preparation on for Durga Puja 2011

Hectic preparation is on for Durga Puja 2011. This will be TMB's 4th Durga puja. With less than a month left for the puja, TMB members are busy chalking out detailed plans for different activities. During puja days lots of events/activities are planned including kids dance and song, natok (drama), dance performance by mondoli ladies. A number of sub-committees is formed to supervise all these activities, please volunteer is you can help in planning and execution of different activities. We also plan to publish our Puja souvenir (Malacha).

While elders are busy in preparation of the Puja, TMB kids are busy in rehearsing the dance steps !!

This year puja will be between 2nd October (Shashthi) - 6th October (Dasami). We solicit everyone's full participation and cooperation in making this event a big success.

Saraswati Puja on 8th February

Tripura Mondoli will organize Saraswati Puja on 8th February. Goddess Saraswati signifies knowledge, learning, arts and culture. She is seen as the serene Goddess wearing a crescent moon on her brow riding a swan or seated on a lotus flower. Saraswati Puja is performed to pay allegiance to the Goddess of learning.

Preparation on for TMB's 3rd Durga puja

TMB members have started preparation for this years Durga puja. This will be the organizations 3rd Durga puja. With less than a month left for the start of puja, different working committees has been identified. Members are meeting regularly to take stock of things. A number of cultural events are also planned on the evenings of puja days. Kids are already busy in rehearsals.

This year puja will be between 14-17th October. We solicit everyone's full participation and cooperation in making this event a big success.

Puja Souvenir - Call for writeups

TMB plans to bring out a souvenir or magazine for this year's Durga Puja. Interested writers can send writeup for the magazine, either in Bangla or English (roughly within 2-3 pages). Possible topics include

Short story
Poems
Tarvelogue
Probondho/article
Jokes
Kids corner (stuff written by genNext).

Final writeup should be sent to Sambuddha Bhattacharya (sambuddha.bhattacharya at gmail.com) latest by 24th September.

TMB Merit Scholarship 2010

This year TMB has started a new initiative of providing scholarship to meritorious but needy students from Tripura. It is aimed at supporting meritorious students who are being denied opportunities to pursue higher education for the want of financial support.

An exhaustive screening process including soliciting application, verifying marks in board examinations and income of the family was carried out. At the end following 6 students has been selected -

A scholarship amount of Rs. 2500 was handed over to the selected students on behalf of TMB. Best wishes to the students for their academic endeavor.

Saraswati Puja 2010

Goddess Saraswati is the Goddess of learning and knowledge. Saraswati is the companion of Lord Brahma (the creator). She represents speech (Vach), the mechanism or divine energy with which Brahma created the universe. The importance of Goddess Saraswati (saras is fluid, wati is easily, i.e. easily flowing energy) is her ability to bring into manifestation the concept of Creation thought by Brahma in his thoughts.The words (or Vach) spoken by Brahma to create the universe is indeed Sarswati! Saraswati Puja is performed to pay allegiance to the Goddess of learning.

TMB is organizing Saraswati Puja on 20th January.

Tripura Mondoli Bangalore is proudly hosting Saraswati Puja on 31st Jan'09. Goddess Saraswati is represented as a graceful woman in white, a symbol of purity and peace. She is the Goddess who signifies knowledge, learning, arts and culture. She is seen as the serene Goddess wearing a crescent moon on her brow riding a swan or seated on a lotus flower. Saraswati Puja is performed to pay allegiance to the Goddess of learning.

In the Vedas, Goddess Saraswati is refered as the water deity and is revered for her purifying and enriching powers. The Goddess of knowledge and learning is said to have invented Sanskrit, the language of the Brahmins, of scriptures and scholars. It is also believed that it was Goddess Saraswati who discovered 'amrit' in the Himalayas and brought it to the other gods. She was said to be identical with Viraj being created out of the substance of Purusha or Prajapati and thus is the instrument of creation. As Brahma's wife, she provides the power to execute what Brahma conceives with his creative intelligence. She is the goddess of all the creative arts and in particular of poetry and music, learning and science.

Tripura Mondoli Bangalore (TMB) is a socio-cultural group based in Bangalore, ‘Mondoli’ in Bengali means group. As the name suggests, a common factor binding members in the group is the fact that most of us are originally from Tripura (a hilly state in the north-eastern part of India) and are now settled in Bangalore because of professional or personal reason, however all likeminded people are welcomed to join in.

What do we do ?

The group provides a platform for us to participate in different socio-cultural activities and a breathing space outside the rat race of today’s professional and urban life. We get together regularly to organize different festivals, cultural functions, sports or just to muse nostalgically on our good old school/college days over cup of tea.
